Indie Rock Vibes: Mannequin Pussy’s Unforgettable Set in Chicago

Indie rock sensations Mannequin Pussy arrived at Thalia Hall this week to deliver a twenty- song set of their unique blend of punk, art rock, and indie pop.

The band has had quite a couple of years, with their music being featured on the hit HBO show Mare of Easttown in 2021, raising their profile with audiences, and their new album, I Got Heaven, has expanded upon their sound even more.

Vocalist Marissa Dabice took the stage wearing a tutu-style dress, owning the crowd from the get-go, cavorting and dancing before taking up her guitar, and former touring guitarist Maxine Steen is now a permanent member, rounding out the band into a four-piece, and Steen is a perfect compliment to Dabice’s electric presence onstage, calling to mind the early days of Karen O. The new songs show a real growth in the band’s style, and the Thalia crowd was unexpectedly treated to the entire new album, alongside favorites like “Romantic” and “Perfect.”
