Some games wear their influences on their sleeves. Heroes Battle Awakening goes so far beyond that.
For those that loved Plants Vs Zombies, Heroes Battle Awakening says hey I’m a cheap alternative. The game looks, feels, and plays just like PvZ but without any of the charm or fun that made PvZ such a legendary game.
Its a simple premise, there are 5 lanes and you use your currency to put heroes down to stop the invading horde of bad guys. Here though, for those unfamiliar with the game though, will suffer greatly. The game itself does not give much, if any, knowledge on what heroes do what past the first one. It then instantly spikes the difficulty up so quickly to the point where level 2 can you have quickly over run with enemies and not enough currency to remedy it.
Its a weird issue with the game where you either feel like its moving way too slow or they’ve too quickly over run you to the point of failure. Visually the game looks fine but entirely generic. Enemies and heroes here don’t have any visual standouts that make them memorable and the sound quickly becomes background noise.
Now overall its not bad to wear your inspriation on your sleeve. However when the game just lacks that basic fun factor, it might be. For $5 though with 40 levels there is a solid amount of content for the cheap price and it will hit for many fans I imagine. Just here it felt like an overly difficult, but not rewarded, basic clone.
