Game Review : Pet Survivors

Published

on

Pet Survivors, at least for a handful of hours, will fill the void if you are in the need for another Survivors-like game.

Pet Survivors feels like babies first survivors game. The premise is the same as all of the games of this kind, you exist on a large map with an endless horde of enemies with the sole purpose of just killing, leveling up, and surviving till the end.

Here what changes though is that each Pet has a special ability and different stats and you pick your weapon from the start. Unlike other games like this the weapon you pick is the only one you’ll get.

Its all fun and simple really. The game controls and looks better then so many of the cheap Survivors type games released but we quickly start to see the bare bones basics of the game from there. Leveling up always follows the same paths as its the same things every round. How other games give you the ability to choose multiple weapons, mix them into one, and create different paths of what you upgrade, it just feels so limited.

The other issue is that even at the end of a 10 minute run you will have 5-6k coins. There is an overall skill tree to level up stats but given that upgrades start at such a low cost and raise to only a few hundred for most, you’ll be maxed out so quickly that dying becomes an afterthought.

Achievement hunters will have to play through every character and gun to get the full 1,0000GS so it gives some variety even if some of the guns are clearly just so inferior to a bare basic assault rifle. With only two maps and two bosses as well, you’ll be replaying the same thing over and over again.

By no means though is this a bad game at its core. Fundamentally its just fine and for a $5 price tag could be so much worse. After a little while though you’ll just see how the content is pretty much all at surface level from the start.
