Water Park Shark on paper (and from the poster) should be dumb fun. Instead we get overly serious and mostly boring.
For reasons somewhat unknown sharks appear to be attracted to a waterpark and get inside via the dumbest way possible. Somehow no one notices sharks on waterslides either or in the pool so they remain like ninjas it seems. From there we have the waterparks lifeguards and staff stage their takedown of the sharks. Typing this feels like some sort of weird acid dream.
The issue here is the movie should be dumb and campy. Instead we get too many sequences that last way too long and remain serious. It isn’t until the final act that the film starts to embrace the dumb campy logic that should be flowing heavy here.
Instead of focusing on these characters which are as thin as paper, bland, and boring the film should give us more sharks on waterslides.
Do the sharks look good, no. Are characters interesting, no. Is the final act all sorts of dumb, yes. What could be fun instead is a chore to get through so when the fun finally starts you are just over this all.
