Friday the 13th turned out to be the perfect setting for a night that was anything but unlucky. Softcult took the stage at the Crowbar in Ybor City, Florida, and delivered a show that was unforgettable.
The band’s energy was infectious, each member fully immersed in the music, moving through their set with passion (and a whole lot of hair flips). The crowd fed off their energy, and it felt like no one wanted the night to end.
They didn’t leave us hanging though, they came back out for an encore. Mercedes Arn-Horn, lead vocals and guitar, returned to the stage solo to play an unreleased track, creating a quiet moment of connection before the full band rejoined her for a powerful finale.
The final song, BWBB, hit especially hard. Before playing it, Mercedes spoke about gender violence and victim blaming, dedicating the track to Sarah Everard, a victim whose story sparked international outrage. It was a moving tribute that added emotional weight to the performance. Just before the song began, drummer and vocalist Phoenix Arn-Horn asked all the women in the crowd to come to the front. And they did. Watching the crowd shift and fill with women taking up that space together felt powerful.
Softcult didn’t just put on a show, they made a statement.
