Citizen Vigilante is likely going to be one of 2026s most talked about films though I feel that discourse will die rather quickly as the far right fan base hyping it up will move on to whatever shiny object they see next. Otherwise, the sore to film Uwe Boll is back with another movie.
We follow Sanders, an American in Europe (no where specific in Europe, just Europe) who amid his random landlord duties and seeming daddy issues takes it upon himself to become judge, jury, and executioner amid a string of race related issues and crimes.
Now at its core this movie isn’t anything special for Boll. He made Postal and the Rampage series. He is no stranger to films where someone kills random people. Here though, this is just a white guy who sugar coats most of it behind some hateful edgelord rhetoric you’d find on X. It’s even funnier when our character goes on his rants, while talking to a European detective, including talking about about hes going after the radical left and how their ruining the democracy here that his film does NOT take place in America.
In fact it seems like his hatred of minorities here doesn’t make any sense. Perfectly fine in one scene for him to fornicate with, where he also stops to investigate mold on the wall, but in others we watch him exterminate a family. Even the beginning of the film where we watching a black character murder a woman with a child just for pure race related shock is nothing but them trying to go for a cheap grindhouse fare without having anything to actually go for it with.
The film itself can’t seem to make up its mind even who it wants to appeal to. They murder tons of cops in a horrible looking scene, he kills and injures children, slaughters families, and seemingly even innocent people. The climax of the film involves Sanders executing a family of Syrian migrants including several friends of theirs who he has them call over. All for a crime that is never shown much but is only spoke of for a gang rape some of the children committed and were found innocent by a judge of. So our film ends with a slaughter along with many lines that are straight off any low IQ racists social media page before we get a generic message about how the film is for ‘rape victims in Europe who were betrayed by our legal system’. Despite how the film overall is not about that at all.
This doesn’t even bring in the fact that banned actor Armie Hammer makes his return to film here. I can’t imagine after this he does much of anything outside of another Uwe Boll film. Costas Mandylor (of the Saw franchise) is also in this and seemingly appears to be in physical pain anytime he is on screen and also seems to be reading off cue cards.
Its its core though the film is just bad. Its painfully boring, there are prolonged periods where nothing happens and even the one action scene looks cheap in a bad way, and the story is just pointless. The cops seemingly care for all of 30 seconds and otherwise Sanders walks around without a care. The script feels a mix of racist right wing sides of the internet and ChatGPT. Plus the special effects are laughable in the worst ways.
This is trash and Germany was right to ban it. If only everyone else would follow suit.
