Film Review : Chum (2026)

Shark films use to be made more often then you could remember. They seemed to be cheap and even with poor FX were usually so bad their sort of fun type films. Chum though proves that AI slop makes an already bad movie worse.

Even starting off with our story the wheels fall off. We have a recently married couple who clearly don’t get along much due to work and seemingly personal life issues. Along with their friends they go on a catamaran, despite one character being weary due to shark issues which are waved off by other characters, and off we go.

Soon though of course the shark comes out and our group is saved by another boat only to find out that captain has a history with the shark and will do anything to see to its end. Our twist here might work better if Dangerous Animals wasn’t a widely released bigger film a year ago with an actual budget, better acting, better writing, better visuals, and better everything though.

Our acting here feels lifeless. It feels like they are reading off cue cards at points with no emotion weight to anything. Cleavage is thrown around almost as a diversion it seems. Camera cuts are endless during it.

The real fault is the AI use here. Prior to release Chum was called out for using AI to do a lot of its FX work. The shark, bloody water that also endlessly bubbles, fire, and more are all cheap sloppy AI garbage here that not even a constant barrage of camera cuts can make look better.

Chum is the bottom feeder of films. Profits over anything. No passion it seems and truly a sludge to get through.
