Banana Ball Take Over The Motor City

DETROIT – Comerica Park in Detroit is usually home to the Detroit Tigers. But things looked a little different as the Party Animals and Firefighters rolled in for a two-night doubleheader spectacular. The famous Banana Ball World Tour made a stop in Detroit for a late-season thriller of a weekend.

The Banana Ball World Tour rolled into the Motor City as part of their 50 game season, spanning across 63 cities in the United States. The Firefighters and Party Animals squared off in two nailbiters, as both games went to a Showdown, a Banana Ball original after regulation concludes in a tie. With playoff implications on the line, the showdowns lived up to the hype.

Banana Ball brought more than a typical competition between two teams though. It brought fun, unity, magic and more. Jesse Cole, owner and founder of Banana Ball, has one simple rule when it comes to Banana Ball. “Put the Fans First”. This is exactly what the league did during their weekend stop in Detroit.

From crowd engagement with the players, fan competitions on the field, choreographed dances from the teams, mascots and even the umpires, to the light up wristband shows in the crowd after the lights went out. Banana Ball brought a weekend of memories to Detroit that will never be forgotten.

Now to the actual competition. The Firefighters swept the Party Animals in Detroit, after going to an infamous showdown both nights. The 5-4 final after night one, lit a spark for the Party Animals headed into night two. With a much better defensive battle, the Firefighters came away with another showdown victory, with a final of 3-2.

Night two brought a few familiar faces back for Detroit, as former all-star pitcher for the Detroit Tigers, Shane Greene took the mound in the 6th inning for the Party animals. Later in the game, the Party Animals used their Golden Batter, which brought Tigers’ legend Brandon Inge to the plate. Although the at-bat ended in a trick-play groundout, a standing ovation from Comerica Park came as he walked off the field.

Back-to-back sold out nights at Comerica Park brought in over 80,000 fans for a Banana Ball spectacular. Jesse Cole ended the night in front of homeplate, telling fans how magical the weekend was. Night two had rain pouring down from start to finish, but 40,000 fans stood strong as the Party Animals and Firefighters were giving the best show. Cole said that the Banana Ball League will return to Detroit in the future.

There are only four more stops on the Banana Ball World Tour, before capping the season off with the championship weekend in Savannah, Georgia. The league has grown tremendously over the last 11 years, and is showing no signs of slowing down. This phenomenon will roll as long as they keep doing what they say they will do, and that is Putting the Fans First.
