Lamb of God brought their North American headlining tour to Boston, Massachusetts on April 26th. Accompanied by Kublai Khan, Fit For An Autopsy, and Sanguisugabogg, this legendary metal lineup took Boston by storm. This was the last show of the tour, and what better way to close it out than at one of the most metal centric cities in the country. The MGM Music Hall at Fenway didn’t know what was coming. Fans rushed into the stadium, eager to have their faces melted by the heavy riffage and brutal vocals that awaited them.
Sanguisugabogg started the show off strong. This death metal band from Columbus, Ohio sounded incredible live. They came in as an opener but performed like a headliner. The band hyped up the entire crowd, playing songs off their newest record, Hideous Aftermath, along with older fan favorites like “Dead as Shit.” This group is known for its raw, primal approach to metal which resonated with the fans, as evidenced by the massive mosh pit.
Next up was Fit For An Autopsy. This deathcore band from Jersey City, New Jersey is well known in New England. I myself have seen them several times and they are always super tight live and put on a heavy show. It was hard not to get swept into the circle pit during their intense setlist. The band played their newest single, “The Wretch”, accompanied by tracks from previous records, including fan favorite “Far from Heaven.”
Kublai Khan TX took the stage next. This metal band from Sherman, Texas brought the heat. They played songs from throughout their discography, including newer tracks like “The Mountain of Corsicana” and older tracks like “The Hammer” and “Antpile”. There was no southern hospitality in the mosh pit as concertgoers flung themselves into each other in a raging mosh pit. At this point the crowd couldn’t be more hyped.
At last, Lamb of God took the stage. This heavy metal band from Richmond, Virginia is legendary in the metal community and have been influential in the formation of many current metal groups. I grew up listening to their music and will never forget hearing “Redneck” for the first time back in 8th grade. It is crazy how much energy they still bring in their live performance. Vocalist Randy Blyth was running around the stage and screaming all the lyrics without missing a beat.
This band has a massive discography and played songs from eight different albums, including their most current Into Oblivion. There was even a drum and guitar solo. They played several hits including “Laid to Rest,” “Desolation,” and “Walk With Me in Hell.” The lighting and production was top-tier. You can tell the band has been doing it a while with how they have perfected their craft on stage.
What a way to close out such a massive tour in Boston, a city known for its metal scene. It was a perfect night to jump in the mosh pit, crowd surf, or even just stand in the back and headbang.
