I really enjoy that the V/H/S/ series has become an almost yearly thing now. It gives newer and hot horror directors a chance to showcase their stuff. This years theme is Halloween and as expected, it has its moments but it isn’t all great.
The real stand out here is the one already being talked about online, Fun Size. A fever dream with a memorable character that will stand out from the first instance you see them. Its a fun, somewhat gross, but at the same time lighthearted candy filled short.
Stuff like Coochie Coohie Coo and Home Haunt both have good stories with them and give some great moments as well. KidPrint has its moments and the story itself seems like it would work but I felt the ending just didn’t really hit that well. Same as the overall story here, Diet Phantasma. It feels like something thats been done and isn’t really interesting enough to keep going. I miss when the wrap around story played more into going into each short.
This might be the first year in a while I don’t think the foreign short is the best. Ut Supra Sic Infra is possibly the shortest one here and even with a few cool moments just was never that interesting.
Overall Halloween like the last few is worth the watch. As a whole its got some great shorts, good gore, and fun practical effects. Even at its worst its still an enjoyable watch.
