Film Review: Superman (2025)

2025 so far is proving to be a good fresh time for superhero films. With Thunderbolts being a fresh break for Marvel earlier this year now its time for DC with Superman. Having never been a big Superman fan in film this one proved me entirely wrong and made me one.

Its nice here too that we get to skip the entire origin story with most being kept to a quick message to start the film before throwing us feet first into it. Superman brings a sense of human to his other worldly self here and its refreshing to see a villain here in the form of Lex Luthor who actually feels evil. Its a beautiful contrast of someone who wants to even try and save someone or something that wants him dead vs someone who will openly kill anyone just to get to his target.

What else works though here so much is a wonderful side cast of characters. Jimmy Olsen and Lois Lane are joys here and played to perfection. Hawkgirl, Green Lantern, and Mr. Fantastic though almost steal the show here between their various personalities and action scenes.

The action here just works so well too. Its bright and colorful at times and when needed more dark and heavy. It mixes some humor in it with some gorgeous slow mo moments and scenes that will be revisited for years to come.

Corenswet though has become Superman. Going through every emotion here in this film he truly comes across as the man of steel with Brosnahan playing Lane to a peak performance as well. Bonus points goes out to Nathan Fillion for knocking it out as Guy Gardener. I hope in a sequel we get more of everyone. Extra bonus points to the bestest boy Krypto as well.

If you are completely done with the superhero genre this might not change your mind. Its easy enough for casual fans to love it and deep enough for the long time fans to get a kick out of things. The action and story will keep you involved as this slightly 2+ hour movie blew by in a breeze. Lets just hope DC and Gunn can keep this streak alive.
