Blumhouse really is hit or miss. Hard to believe they did The Woman In The Yard and Drop back to back.
We follow Violet (Meghann Fahy) who heads to a fancy skyrise restaurant for a first date with Henry (Brandon Sklenar). Her sister is at home watching her son, as Violet is a single mom with a bad past. Soon though Violet starts to receive concerning air drop messages and learns if she doesn’t follow them, the stakes could be deadly.
The premise here is really simple and the trailer lays it all out. The film mostly takes place in the confines of this skyrise building and thats where it works best. While we are there dealing with the tense mystery of these Drops, the film is at its best. Likable characters and some sharp writing here works but the final act sort of demolishes it.
While the moment leading into the big twist is easy to spot but fun the climax after throws the film into almost another gear. Its fun but quickly goes from simplistic to almost entirely unrealistic.
Christopher Landon continues to prove though that he can do great things with horror and thrillers and it shows here. For all its downfalls Drop still manages to be a fun and sometimes tense watch if you can truly shut your brain off.
