The Casualties drop new track ‘Allies And Assassins’
Published
2 weeks agoon
Punk royalty The Casualties are back with another new song ‘Allies And Assassins’. This comes from the bands upcoming record ‘Detonate’ which drops this upcoming Friday.
It is also their second album with David Rodriguez at the mic and solidifies his relationship with Marc “Meggers” Eggers (drums), Jake Kolatis (guitar) and Doug Wellmon (bass). “We were in the studio for [2018’s] ‘Written in Blood’ about eight months after I joined,” Rodriguez says. “With this new record, we really grew together. For me, it’s the proud moment where we clicked the three Legos together.”
“‘Allies And Assassins’ is a feeling, a state of mind!” Rodriguez explains. “Growing up we are taught to bow to State and Church and we see all the atrocities that follow. We see how it tears us apart! We see how we blindly follow the leader and WE, we the people fall off the cliff, not them.”
“It’s a feeling we felt in our youth and we set in motion as we grew older,” he continued. “During the presidential elections this feeling wrapped around me like a rope and started squeezing the life out of me. There was so much hate and tension in the air it was hard to know who your friends were. And times like these we remember, those who fought before us and we fight back!”
“It stems from being overloaded,” Meggers says. “You feel like your head is about to explode, which I think is what everybody is feeling these days. You’re pounced on day by day with terrible news and social media, and you just feel like you’re going to snap.”
With the unblinking eyes of the punk world on them, The Casualties pulled the blinds and did what they do best. “There was a degree of pressure, but not from outside sources,” Rodriguez explained. “We just wanted to do the best record that we could that honors The Casualties name and history without playing the same song over and over. But it wasn’t that we even had to go out of our way. It felt natural to write this new music.”
The record also features special guests, including a vocal intro by hardcore legend Vinnie Stigma of Agnostic Front on “Brick By Brick” and Native American punk band 1876 who contribute guest vocals and percussion on “Ashes of War.” “As long as I’ve been listening, I’ve felt like The Casualties always spoke up for people in society that didn’t have as loud of a voice,” Rodriguez says. “The Casualties have always had some Spanish in songs, but it just seemed like such an important time to have loud Native voices. You don’t hear it that often, and the more we spoke together, the more we really found out.”
Ultimately, ‘Detonate’ amplifies the punk ethos that The Casualties have embodied since 1990: A raised fist in the face of oppression. “I want people to feel empowered when they hear this record,” said Rodriguez. “I want them to feel like they have a voice. I want them to feel like they’re with like-minded people when they come to a Casualties show. They can be themselves and not watch the show but be part of the show—scream with us, jump off the stage. We want them to feel like they’re part of something.”

“‘Graverobbers from Outer Space’ is one of my favorite songs on The Dark Overlords of the Universe”, The Ghoulstars guitarist Markus “Daddy Ghoul” Laakso says. “Horror movies are practically in my blood flow, especially quirky classics like Plan 9 from Outer Space. This song was written as a straightforward pile-driving tribute, though I can’t think of many punk rock songs that have a doomy C-part and güiro”.

90s NYHC band Maximum Penalty announce first vinyl pressing of 1996 album ‘Independent’
Published

April 7, 2026
90s NYHC band Maximum Penalty has announced their 1996 album ‘Independent‘ will be pressed to vinyl for the first time thanks to Flatspot Records. A unique band in that era of hardcore the band toured with all the legendary acts of the time and has been praised by the likes of End It, Turnstile, Hardlore, and more.
For its 30th anniversary this year, Independent will be available on vinyl and cassette for the first time ever, as well as CD, through Flatspot Records with a release date of May 6th. The album, now remastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege, will also return to streaming services on that date.
Guitarist Joseph Affe remarks:
“Maximum Penalty’s Independent is the only record that has never had a vinyl release because at the time it was released on CD, vinyl was an afterthought. As we kept playing and putting out new releases, releasing Independent on vinyl was something we always wanted to do and here we are finally, 30 years later. Independent era was a great time in Maximum Penalty’s history – it means a lot to us to see that a newer crowd are discovering the record for the first time, it’s incredible!”
Maximum Penalty’s initial run spanned an impressive discography – Demo 89, 1995’s East Side Story EP, 1996’s Independent LP, 1997’s Super Life LP, and a number of tracks on various compilations including Blackout Records’ Where The Wild Things Are and Satisfaction Guaranteed. Maximum Penalty would emerge again in 2009 with the Life & Times LP (Reaper Records), carrying their sound to listeners new and old.
Independent lineup and recording credits:
Jimmy Williams – Vocals
Joseph Affe – Guitars & Backing Vocals
Mark Sisto – Bass
Darren Morgenthaler – Drums

Sepultura have dropped a new song ‘Beyond The Dream’, which is coming from the bands upcoming farewell EP. ‘The Cloud of Unknowing‘ will release April 24th and be the final music released from the legendary group.
SEPULTURA commented,
“Beyond the Dream” emerges as one of the most emblematic moments of Sepultura’s final chapter, serving as a poetic reflection of a journey shaped by decades of albums, tours, and life on the road.
This previously unreleased composition fulfills a long-standing desire of the band to explore the ballad format, blending Sepultura’s identity with the melodic sensitivity of renowned collaborators. To bring this project to life, Sepultura enlisted the essential collaboration of Sérgio Britto and Tony Bellotto of Titãs—musicians who share a long history with the band and are widely recognized as specialists in the genre, as well as composers of classics such as “Polícia.”
The result of a direct partnership between members of Sepultura and Titãs, the song celebrates the connection between artists who share the stage and a deep passion for creation. The outcome is a piece that brings great satisfaction to everyone involved, establishing itself as both an emotional and historical milestone featured on the band’s final EP, released in this very year that marks Sepultura’s official farewell.”
