Indie-folk act The Head and the Heart brought their tour for new album Aperture to the Salt Shed this week, bringing along some friends to round out a stellar bill on a hot August night in Chicago.

Katie Pruitt opened the show with a breezy set of contemplative tunes that fell somewhere in the middle of pop, Americana, and folk, all featuring her commanding, lush vocals, and Americana outfit Wilderado delivered a jangly set of catchy material from most recent album, 2024’s Talker.

The Head and the Heart took the stage to the deafening applause of the crowd, beginning their set with “All We Ever Knew” and playing a 22-song setlist that saw fan favorites like the romantic “Let’s Be Still,” which saw numerous couples dancing in the crowd, “Missed Connection,” and “Honeybee.”

“Chicago is where I met my wife,” frontman Jonathan Russell noted at one point, telling the story of how going to see Radiohead at Lollapalooza led to the chance encounter.  “And my family doesn’t exist without you all, so thank you.”

With a full moon overhead, it was a sweet night of emotional tunes and singalongs from the capacity crowd.
