Movements bring “Ruckus!” to Detroit

It’s warming up in Detroit and I think we’re all in need of a pink cloud summer.

Downward kicked things off with their heavy, atmospheric, almost shoegaze sound. Their mix of dreamy melodies and loud, crashing moments pulled the crowd in. It was a slower start compared to the rest of the lineup, but it built up nicely and set the mood for the night. They just released their new EP downward that I encourage you all to check out.

Scowl flipped the energy. Their fast, aggressive punk sound had the crowd moving right away. Kat Moss was a force, delivering every song with intensity and making sure no one in the venue was standing still. Tracks like Tonight (I’m Afraid) and B.A.B.E. stood out, giving a preview of their upcoming album Are We All Angels.

Citizen dominated, bringing a mix of moody, emotional songs and heavier moments. The stage lighting matched their vibe perfectly, creating an almost hypnotic atmosphere. As soon as they played The Night I Drove Alone, the whole venue was singing along. Other standouts included Sleep and The Summer, which had fans completely locked in. Their set felt personal, like a shared experience. This was my personal favorite of the night, with Citizen playing the best I’ve seen them play tonight.

Movements seem to have a genuine love for Detroit. The band got off to an even-paced start playing songs like Where I Lay, their new song that was released just weeks ago in February. The setlist was a perfect mix of newer songs, playing a mix of their newest offering Ruckus! and old favorites. You can tell that the fans hold the older songs close, and that they were happy to hear they’d be playing them. One of the raw moments of the night was Daylily—everyone in the room was singing the words and you could feel the energy. Movements sends a clear message with their music, repeatedly reminding us that all of us don’t fit the mold and that’s OK.
