Film Review : Fear Street: Prom Queen (2025)

While I am happy we continue to get stuff like modern versions of Goosebumps and Fear Street, this sadly doesn’t even live up the previous Fear Street trilogy of films.

With only the mildest connection to the previous Fear Street Netflix films, Prom Queen follows Lori Granger, an outcast at her high school. Bullied and mocked because she doesn’t fit in and her mom supposedly murdered her dad, Lori’s only friend is Megan, a horror loving outcast as well. Nominated for Prom Queen though Lori wants a change to happen but soon they find out theres a killer on the loose at the prom.

The story here is pretty paint by numbers which is the main trait of this entire film. Everything comes off so bland and lifeless. Performances, dialog, and even the kills just feel so uneventful. While the kills are at least practical and some are a bit fun and bloody as the film goes on they feel less and less important.

Even the twist here is just a mood killer and horribly cliche’d. The films direction changes drastically and even this twist makes the story feel even less important here.

Prom Streets an easy watch as background noise really and I just hope that they continue doing Fear Street films but go back to doing quality films like the other ones were.
